We are thrilled to welcome Breakside White to our lineup of year-round beers. This is a modern wither brewed with light touches of spices, a restrained -but- characterful yeast, and tremendous attention to detail by the Breakside team. Everything here is subtle: subtle notes of floral coriander, subtle citrus from the use of bitter orange and sweet tangerine, subtle herbaceous and spicy hop notes, subtle wheatiness that provides a soft and pillowy mouthfeel, subtle notes of lemon, pear, and pepper from the yeast. Together this makes for a layered, symphony of a drink, but because it is so delicate and nuanced, it is also one of our most approachable and winsome beers.

It’s hard to remember through the fog of so many years of IPAs, but Witbier was one of the first beers that Breakside ever made. Back in the fall of 2010, it sat comfortably in our lineup alongside other fan favorites like our Dry Stout and Hoppy Amber, and was a stalwart of our summer draft menu for years, so think of this as a homecoming of sorts. The Northwest has a long and proud tradition of brewing wheat beer. With fresh eyes and modern palates, we are here to sing the praises of wit, with this retooled interpretation of a classic.

The Perfect Lager can be consumed anywhere – from your front porch to the sandy beaches of Oswald West State Park, in a glass or straight from the can. We’re not saying we made The Perfect Lager. But we did make a Lager: Short Sands. Lagers take time and careful consideration. We’ve been working on Short Sands for years – calculating the ideal balance of floral and fruity, malty and toasty. Clean, crisp esters from a low and slow fermentation, classic German malts and noble hops for the barest touch of malt sweetness. A pressurized tank during fermentation produces natural carbonation and here we are. The perfect can size (12 oz), available all year long from wherever you get your good beer. Maybe it is The Perfect Lager?
